Andy Deane – The Sticks

Review
by Muse en Lystrala

Andy Deane's first novel, The Sticks, recently published by Delerium Books, pulls out all the stops of horror with action, gore, and of course, monsters.

Set in Jefferson Virginia, The Sticks is narrated by a young man (an alt-culture, blue collar southerner) named Brian. It starts off at a party full of upstanding socialites, which the young man is attending with his girlfriend. The kid predictably blows it, leaves the party, and is effectively jettisoned from his girlfriend's life...who then goes missing after taking a walk in the woods.

The byproduct of a mind that has watched and read hundreds of horror films and books, Andy's novel approaches horror in a new way – less suspense and more action, a simplistic but intelligent writing style rather than high-brow, over-intellectualized language, and even a monster archetype that has not been heavily examined by either literature or film – the werewolf. His writing style – easy to follow, easy to relate to – will hopefully be emulated by future horror writers.

Andy's novel can be purchased as a paperback, or as a PDF file. You can learn more about this work of fiction (as well as its author) and find out how to purchase your copy at http://andydeane.net.

Whether you're a horror buff or just making your way in, The Sticks is a book not to be missed.
