Ocean Born Muse is an independent music project managed by mezzosoprano Muse en Lystrala, originally from Providence, Rhode Island, US. A mixture of electronica, darkwave, ambience, classical, and contemporary and operatic vocals, Ocean Born Muse claims such influences as Switchblade Symphony, VNV Nation, Covenant, In Tenebris, Epica, Mozart, and Delerium.
Ocean Born Muse fits easily into a number of musical genres, and yet defies classification. Drawing heavily on classic electronica influences such as Savage Garden, Ace of Base, and Daft Punk, as well as classical music including baroque, romantic and 20th century contemporary, it blends these primary influences with heavy input from the darkwave, EBM, and ambient genres to create a varying and yet harmonious body of music. Ocean Born Muse has been well-received in the dark alternative community of the northeast US, appreciated by both composers and listeners.
Previous works include Sessions, Divine Technology, Vindication, the Temple of Madness EP, The Cold Blue Twilight, and The Absence of Machina EP (an all a capella release released in December 2009).The project's final album, The Labyrinthine Conspiracy, features a combination of darkwave, EBM, world and symphonic music. Muse is working on a number of collaborations with other artists, including Candice Christiansen, RaHb of Doomsday Virus, and Elizabeth Lorrey.
In January of 2010, Muse began a modern classical project entitled Seeds of Atropos, which features several other performing artists. The first album from Seeds of Atropos, Season of Hope, is expected to be released in late 2012. She now works with this project full-time.
Muse grew up in a creative household, where she was encouraged to explore the world of music and art by her mother, who herself had taken music lessons and is an avid practitioner of various crafting arts. However, Muse is the first person in her family, both extended and immediate, to create a career out of the fine and performing arts.
Muse's first novel, Angelsong, was released in early 2009, and a poetry/songbook entitled The Celestial Nine was released digitally in September 2009. The Celestial Nine, Angelsong, and a ZIP archive of selected songs can be downloaded in Extras.
Muse writes for the goth culture magazine Nocturnal, and serves as assistant captain for the Bella Morte Street Team.
